Coaches FAQ
Q: I have interest in becoming a youth lacrosse coach for Rogers Otsego Youth Lacrosse. Who should I contact?
A: Please complete our 'Become A Coach' form.
Q: Do I need lacrosse experience to be a coach?
A: No! Although we do try to staff each team with coaches who have lacrosse experience, those with no experience can still be a valuable addition to any coaching staff. USA Lacrosse provides step‑by‑step online education, practice plans, and resources designed for beginner coaches, and GNLL supports you throughout the season
Q: What certifications are required to coach?
A: Active USA Lacrosse membership and Bronze Coaching Certification (required for all coaches)
Q: What is the time commitment during the season?
A: Time commitment varies by age level, but typically includes:
- 1–2 practices per week (60–90 minutes)
- 1–2 games per weekend during spring
- Weeknight games during summer
- Occasional tournament weekends (Spring & Summer State Tournaments)
Overall, most coaches spend 3–5 hours per week during the season
Q: What if I can’t attend every practice or game?
A: Teams typically have multiple coaches, allowing flexibility. Communication with your co‑coaches and team manager helps cover conflicts. ROLAX understands that coaches are volunteers
Why should I consider coaching?
Coaches often say it’s one of the most rewarding ways to be involved:
- Build confidence and leadership in youth athletes
- Learn the game alongside your player
- Be a positive role model
- Support your local lacrosse community
- No experience required—just willingness to help
