Frequently Asked Questions
GENERAL INFO
My child plays another sport in the spring and won’t be able to make it to any of the indoor practices, can they still play?
Read MoreYES! We understand that spring schedules can be busy, and one practice a week might be tough for some families. Your child can still play – just talk to the coaches about your situation and have your child attend practices as often as they’re able to. We’re flexible and want to make the spring season work for everyone.
Where are practices held?
Indoor Practices are held at the Health Partners Fieldhouse at the Trustone Center. 14160 James Road, Rogers, MN 55374
Summer practices are held on the "Reservoir Fields" in Rogers, behind RHS, adjacent to the Rogers Tennis Center.
What is the time commitment?
Practices vary weekly and increase by age.
Spring League games are scheduled begining in early May and are held as double headers on either Saturday or Sunday in the metro areas.
Summer League games are held on weeknights beginning in June - half at our home fields, half at "away" locations around the metro.
Tournaments-
We will participate in 3 tournaments. GNLL Spring State Tournament, 1 Association tournament, GNLL Summer State Tournament. Dates and details are available on the registration page.
REGISTRATION
What age level should I register my child for?
ROLAX follows the age segmentation policy provided by USA Lacrosse. Please click here to determine the proper age level for your child.
Can my child play in a different age group?
Players are assigned to teams based on USA Lacrosse age guidelines and, when applicable, player evaluation results.
In certain situations, a player may request to “move up” or “move down” one age division if another placement better fits their skill level, experience, grade, or unique circumstances.
Please refer to our full policy located here.
Why has ROLAX changed its approach to age-division waivers this season?
Read MoreIn prior seasons, waiver requests were sometimes reviewed and approved earlier in the registration process. While well-intentioned, this approach led to unintended roster imbalances, with some teams becoming over- or under-staffed and competitive balance being affected.
Based on that experience, ROLAX has updated its process to ensure:
- More evenly balanced teams across all divisions
- A better experience for all players, not just those requesting waivers
- Clear, consistent decision-making for families and coaches
Waiting until registration closes allows us to evaluate waiver requests with complete and accurate registration numbers, reducing last-minute changes and helping us form stable teams from the start.
Are there tryouts?
Team evaluations will be held at the 12U & 14U age levels if necessary based on the amount of players registered. If enough players are registered to form 2 teams - evaluations will be held in an effort to create "A" and "B" level teams. - If registration numbers do now allow us to offer 2 teams at a given age group, one team will be formed and evaluations will not be held.
At the 10U and younger levels, if registration numbers allow, 2 equal level teams will be formed Evaluations will not be held for these age groups.
Do I have to register for both spring and summer leagues?
Yes*. This season we have a single registration option that covers both spring and summer league play for most teams.
*The 6U co-ed and 14U girls teams will be summer-only teams.
Can I register late?
March 1 is the date ROLAX must submit the planned number of teams to GNLL.
Players must be registered by this date to:
- Be guaranteed evaluation
- Be guaranteed team placement
Registrations received after March 1 may be placed on a waitlist and are not guaranteed placement.
Late registration is accepted only if space allows.
Why do we need to register before evaluations?
Evaluations are used to determine team placement, not participation.
We must know how many players plan to participate before evaluations so we can:
- Commit teams to the league
- Schedule evaluators and staff
- Order uniforms
Players registered by March 1 will be evaluated on March 23 & March 25 and placed appropriately.
Why is ROLAX being stricter about deadlines this year?
In past seasons, accepting late registrations made team formation, staffing, and uniform ordering difficult and impacted the overall player experience.
By enforcing clear deadlines, ROLAX can:
- Plan responsibly
- Reduce last-minute changes
- Provide a better experience for all players
USA LACROSSE
Why is a USA Lacrosse membership required?
USA Lacrosse membership is required for all players participating in ROLAX because it provides insurance coverage and safety oversight for youth lacrosse programs nationwide.
The membership:
- Provides secondary accident insurance for players during practices and games
- Is required by our leagues and facilities for participation
- Supports coach education, rules standards, and player safety initiatives
This is not a ROLAX fee and is paid directly to USA Lacrosse.
What if we already have a USA Lacrosse membership?
If your child already has a current USA Lacrosse membership that is active through July 31, 2026, you do not need to purchase another one. You can enter the existing membership number during registration.
Why isn’t the USA Lacrosse membership included in registration fees?
USA Lacrosse memberships are individual, annual memberships tied directly to the player rather than the local program. Families purchase and manage the membership directly to ensure it remains active and accurate.
Where can I find my USA Lacrosse membership number?
Read MoreYour USA Lacrosse membership number can be found in any of the following ways:
- Confirmation email you received when you purchased or renewed the membership
- USA Lacrosse account:
- Go to the USA Lacrosse website
- Log in to your account
- Select your child’s profile
- The membership number will be listed there
WAITLIST
What does it mean if my child is on a waitlist?
Being on the waitlist does not necessarily mean your player won't play this season. It simply means that we have reached the initial capacity for a specific age group, and we are pausing to ensure we can provide a high-quality experience for everyone.
Why are we using a waitlist?
Our goal is to create teams that are "just right." We follow league-recommended roster sizes to ensure:
- Maximum Playing Time: We don’t want teams so large that players spend more time on the sideline than on the field.
- Player Health & Safety: We don’t want teams so small that players become exhausted or "wiped out" without enough substitutes for breaks.
- Development: Smaller, focused rosters allow coaches to give more individual attention to each athlete.
How do players get moved to a team?
Players are added from the waitlist only if we have enough total registrants to form an additional team within the recommended roster range, or if a spot opens up on an existing roster.
EVALUATIONS
Our full evaluation policy can be found on the Board of Directors Page in the documents section.
Are evaluations required for all players?
Evaluations are required for 12U and 14U divisions when registration numbers allow more than one team to be formed.
GNLL requires all associations with two or more teams at the 14U & 12U levels must select at least one to play in the A level.
What if my child cannot attend evaluations?
Any player unable to participate in tryouts due to injury, illness, or other Board approved absence will be evaluated on prior year performance, previous coaching recommendations, and current coach recommendation to determine the most likely team placement.
- Parent/Player must complete the Evaluation Absence Request form at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of evaluations or as soon as the need arises due to injury or emergency.
- Failure to submit the form may result in an automatic placement on a lower-level team
Before the first day of evaluations, the board will review all absence requests to determine if absence will be excused or un-excused.

What is the family Max for DIBS?
Read MoreEach family is expected to contribute at least 2 hours volunteering with the association.
The same user account must register each family member for the system work as expected, and have all hours count toward a family max.
Please note in 2026 working the time clock and/or running a scoreboard for your own team DOES NOT count toward your DIBS requirement. These duties will be coordinated by team managers and all families are expected to participate as members of the team.
