Coaches Information & Expectations
Rogers Otsego Lacrosse (ROLAX) coaches create a positive learning environment where the youth learn sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork, and responsibility as well as providing the instruction needed to eventually compete in Lacrosse at the high school level.
Rogers Otsego Lacrosse (ROLAX) emphasizes skill development, fair play, teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and fun. Each player should be provided the opportunity to play in every game and play different positions.
The information is provided to assist coaches in working with the ROLAX youth athletes.
Coach expectations
All coaches MUST:
- Register as a coach with Rogers Otsego Youth Lacrosse (Email registration@rogersotsegolarosse.com)
- Become a verified USA Lacrosse Member Coach
- Complete required safety training and pass a background check
- Complete USA Lacrosse Coaching Certification (See Below)
- Head Coach - Minimum Level Silver
- Assistant Coach - Minimum Level Bronze
- Abide by the ROLAX Coaches Code of Conduct (Signed during ROLAX Registration)
**Until these requirements are met, the coach MAY NOT act in an official coaching capacity or be present on the team sideline during any game or scrimmage.

While we appreciate the enthusiasm and willingness of parents to step in and help, any person over the age of 18 who participates in a practice for any length of time or even a single occasion is REQUIRED to register with our association and hold a USA Lacrosse Bronze Coaching Membership.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
Only Registered and approved adults have coaching interactions with our players.

Coach Certification Requirements
Rogers Otsego Lacrosse (ROLAX) along with the youth lacrosse organizations (GNLL) which ROLAX plays under require that all coaches for the program be registered and obtain the Bronze Level Certification through USA Lacrosse.

Q: I have interest in becoming a youth lacrosse coach for Rogers Otsego Youth Lacrosse. Who should I contact?

Q: Do I need lacrosse experience to be a coach?
A: No! Although we do try to staff each team with coaches who have lacrosse experience, those with no experience can still be a valuable addition to any coaching staff. USA Lacrosse provides step‑by‑step online education, practice plans, and resources designed for beginner coaches, and GNLL supports you throughout the season
Q: What if I can’t attend every practice or game?
A: Teams typically have multiple coaches, allowing flexibility. Communication with your co‑coaches, team manager, and coaching director helps cover conflicts. ROLAX understands that coaches are volunteers with outside commitments.
Q: What is the time commitment during the season?

- 1–2 practices per week (60–90 minutes)
- 1–2 games per weekend during spring
- Weeknight games during summer
- Occasional tournament weekends (Spring & Summer State Tournaments)
Overall, most parent coaches spend 3–5 hours per week during the season
Q: What certifications are required to coach?
A: Active USA Lacrosse membership and Bronze Coaching Certification (required for all coaches) The membership includes all necessary safety training and a background check.
You must also register as a coach with ROLAX

Q: I'm a parent and occasionally have time to help at practices. Is it ok to jump in to help with drills, etc., when I'm available?
A: NO.
All adults must be cleared to coach by the ROLAX board and USA Lacrosse, even helpful parents. Please contact our coaching director for information.
